Overview
This case-based and participant engaging session, which is part of the 'Ethical Considerations in Behavioral Health" quarterly series, will focus on the issue of addressing the stigma of mental illness. It will first examine attitudes and biases relative to behavioral health needs, including suicide, and various forms of stigma at the individual, community and organizational levels. Next, we will examine ethical principle and the Ethical and Religious Directives relative to the topic, as well as how we as individuals, clinicians and as an organization ought to respond to stigma and promote holistic care fr ourselves and for those we serve.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Articulate ethical principles and Ethical and Religious Directives that are relevant to the topic
  2. Connect ethical principles and frameworks explored within this presentation to the Behavioral Health Professional Groups’ Code of Ethics
  3. Recognize and be able to respond to stigma and bias related to mental illness within their field of work

Accreditation
Ascension is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the Healthcare team.

This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 1.00 IPCE credits for learning and change.
