Overview

The COVID-19 pandemic began a little over a year ago and has upended society throughout the world. Soon after SARS-CoV-2 was identified as the cause of COVID-19 vaccines were developed to prevent this disease. There are now 3 vaccines that have shown efficacy in preventing COVID-19.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Summarize basic concepts of COVID-19 vaccine design
  2. Review how vaccines are tested for safety and efficacy
  3. Understand the importance of vaccination to develop community protection
