In this workshop, participants will examine how maintaining professional boundaries can help providers serve all patients fairly, without over- or under-involving themselves in their patient’s lives. Through interactive discussions and activities, workshop attendees will examine a wide array of patient-provider situations and learn to ask themselves, for whatever behavior they are engaged in, "would I do this for every patient?"

1. Participants will identify potential boundary violations.
2. Participants will demonstrate the necessary steps to build a therapeutic relationship with patients without over- or under-involving themselves.
3. Participants will be able to explain and comply with standards for maintaining professional boundaries.
