Identify the indications and contraindications for new modalities in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of specific medical conditions. Formulate prioritized differential diagnosis for the clinical presentations of specific medical conditions, diagnoses, and diseases.

2. understand the pathogenesis of iron overload disorders (hereditary hemochromatosis and iron-loading anemias)
3. understand the role of iron in host defense
4. understand the pathogenesis of anemia of inflammation
