Overview

Physicians and other medical personnel often become immersed in practice and inattentive to ethical constructs in real time as they gain confidence and reputation.  This activity will review basic medical ethics constructs and their applications, including confidentiality, informed consent, justice, privacy and respect for boundaries.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the core constructs of medical ethics across all specialties
  2. Identify common examples of how privacy and confidentiality can be safeguarded beyond basic practices
  3. Summarize how to construct a common statement for documentation of informed consent that addresses actions of treatment recommendations, risks of significance and alternatives
