Overview
High Level Disinfection (HLD) 101 is an educational activity that was provided live in FY26, now available through IPCE to allow associates to learn at their own time and pace. This training provides a comprehensive framework for the safe handling, cleaning, and disinfection of reusable medical instruments, including endoscopes, probes, and dilators, with a specific focus on clinics and medical offices in ambulatory care settings. Designed for frontline staff and clinical support teams, this session walks participants through each critical step in the reprocessing workflow—from point-of-use pre-cleaning to proper disinfection, drying, storage, and documentation—tailored to the operational realities and constraints of ambulatory environments.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe the key steps of the Autoclave - Sterilization process for reusable medical instruments in ambulatory settings, including cleaning, disinfection, and proper storage, in alignment with infection prevention standards.
  2. Identify potential risks or gaps in current HLD - Sterilization practices, and apply appropriate auditing and oversight strategies to ensure process reliability, compliance, and patient safety.

Accreditation
Ascension is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the Healthcare team.

This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 0.50 IPCE credits for learning and change.
