This presentation will review current recommendations for the medical evaluation of children who present to frontline healthcare providers with symptoms concerning for abusive head trauma.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand information concerning abusive head trauma in children after attending the presentation
  2. Understand the importance of the medical exam to the overall investigative process
  3. The medical definitions and descriptive terminology utilized in children who present with abusive head trauma
  4. The reported and estimated overall frequency of AHT in children
  5. Common signs and symptoms of infants and toddlers presenting with AHT to primary care providers and Urgent Care Center and ED physicians
  6. The current recommendations for medical evaluation of AHT
  7. Be aware of some of the recent "controversies" that have been discussed in the media and courtrooms
  8. Be aware of some of the recent "controversies" that have been discussed in the media and courtrooms

Accreditation
Ascension is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the Healthcare team.
