Overview

This activity will address the need for accurate assessment in determining clinical best practices. As the opioid epidemic has morphed, so to have the guidelines for safe use of opioids. Understanding the physiology of pain assists the healthcare provider to explore evidence-based guidelines to initiate safe appropriate therapy.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Review the latest practices for assessing acute and chronic pain
  2. Summarize current guidelines on the appropriate use of opioids for pain management
  3. Describe the pharmacologic agents used in pain management
